Marc Thomas (Tomo)
After studying a Diploma in Sport and Rec for 2 years at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, Marc joined the Defence Force in January 2008 to be a Physical Training Instructor not knowing how much hard work was ahead of him. He graduated from the Joint Services Physical Training Instructor Primary course in July 2009, then the Physical Training Instructor Advanced course in July 2011. Marc passed with the “Top practical award” and the “Fern trophy” awarded to the student who achieves the highest marks in all assessed areas.
Since then Marc has continued to up skill his knowledge in the Health and Fitness Industry completing the NZ Army Rehabilitation Instructor course 2011, the KBT Strength & Conditioning Course in England 2012, CrossFit Level 1 Course 2013, the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association (ASCA) Level 1 Course 2013, and ASCA Level 2 course (Melbourne 2015) .
Marc found CrossFit at the end of 2012 and qualified to compete at the 2013 CrossFit Regionals as an individual competitor placing 24th overall in the 2013 Australiasian open. He also competed as part of a team at the 2014 Australasian Regionals.
He is passionate about CrossFit and the methodology of “being ready for anything”. Through his own challenges and experiences he has learnt that CrossFit questions old school theories on fitness. CrossFit went against the grain and proved you can not only be strong but skilful, mobile and fit all at the same time by regular exposure to ALL of the components of fitness. Marc is a strong believer in building functional bodies to help people get the most out of an active and healthy lifestyle.
In 2018 Marc qualified to compete at the Australian Arnolds Classic Strongman competition in the U80kg weight category. He took away first place which earnt him a spot to represent his country at the World Strongman Games in November 2018. He came home with 13th place and a fire in his belly to get back on that stage and bring home that title!
